In a collaborative effort to raise awareness of eInvoicing within the Japanese business community in New Zealand, the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), in partnership with the Japan Peppol Authority (Digital Agency of Japan) and the Office of the Japanese Consulate-General in Auckland, hosted a successful eInvoicing seminar on 15 May 2025.

The event was facilitated by the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Auckland, NISUIKAI, and brought together around 30 participants, primarily representatives from Japanese companies operating in New Zealand.

Mr. Hiroyuki Kato, representing the Japan Peppol Authority, joined Alan Carnaby, eInvoicing Adoption Manager from MBIE, to present updates on the current state of eInvoicing in New Zealand. The seminar included a presentation on the Government’s eInvoicing initiatives and procurement rules, followed by an engaging interactive discussion.

eInvoicing adoption in New Zealand

As of April 2025, over 51,000 New Zealand businesses are registered to receive eInvoices, with more than 270,000 eInvoices exchanged to date, reflecting the growing momentum behind eInvoicing across the country.

This strong uptake highlights the benefits of eInvoicing, including faster payments, reduced manual processing, and improved accuracy.

Both the Japan and New Zealand Peppol Authorities expressed their confidence that the seminar successfully deepened participants’ understanding of eInvoicing and its benefits.

This event marks another step forward in fostering international collaboration and supporting businesses in adopting digital solutions that streamline invoicing and payment processes.
