Singapore and NZ Prime Ministers announce eInvoicing Memorandum of Agreement

Published: 18 April 2024

New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong announced on Monday 15 April 2024 the signing of the eInvoicing Memorandum of Agreement (MoA).

This means both parties agree to cooperate and collaborate on initiatives that promote, encourage, support, or facilitate the adoption of eInvoicing by businesses. Specifically, to:

  • promote the existence of underlying infrastructure to support eInvoicing; and
  • generate awareness of and build capacity for eInvoicing.

The Info-communications Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA) and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE), enjoy a close working relationship. Regular meetings are held with counterparts from the Australian, New Zealand, Japanese, Malaysian, and Singapore to share information, discuss matters of mutual interest, and consider initiatives to promote the adoption of eInvoicing within the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region.

The MoA builds on the close cooperation already enjoyed between the two countries, formalises MBIE’s working relationship with the IMDA. It closely aligns with a similar agreement already in operation between the Australian Tax Office (ATO) and the IMDA.

MBIE and IMDA have agreed the time is right to further strengthen our relationship and signal the importance of establishing common standards within our region, and amongst our key trading partners.
